Rules on modesty, the mandatory wearing of the abaya (long dress) and gender segregation in public spaces remain present in much of the country. Respect, modesty and obedience to family values are unshakable pillars of Saudi society. I grew up under these values, which with love and conviction my family instilled in me, and for which I feel a deep respect.. However, the desire to trace a different destination, to explore other paths, led me to Panama - a country that, although different, also welcomes with warmth and color to those who inhabit it.. Panama is a country of free spirit, mestizo, Caribbean, where many cultures and religions converge. Here, life is lived more freely: women can dress as they wish, express their opinions freely and make decisions about their future without the same social or religious restrictions.. It is common to see people of different faiths, lifestyles and backgrounds living together in harmony. Music sounds loud in the streets, laughter is open, and the pace of life feels more relaxed. In Panama, a woman can study what she wants, work in any field, go out alone, drive, dance, travel without permission from a male guardian, and even express her opinion openly in public spaces.. All this contrasts with the limitations that, culturally and religiously, still persist in many Saudi regions.. But it's not all difference. Both cultures deeply value the family. In Saudi Arabia, the family is the center of everything, a sacred bond that is not broken. In Panama, although in a more flexible way, family love and respect are also cultivated. Both cultures also share hospitality, generosity and a sense of honor that transcends generations.. Today, living between two worlds, I carry with me the best of both: the firmness of values that my Saudi upbringing gave me and the freedom of choice that Panamanian society offers me.. It is not a question of abandoning one culture to adopt another, but of growing up with a hybrid, strong identity that allows me to honor my origin while continuing to build my own future..
