On the occasion of World Handwashing Day on 15 October, held annually with the support of UNICEF,a study of lIfop<\/span><\/a>required byXloveCam<\/span><\/a>highlights the behaviour of Europeans in the face of barrier gestures since the last lockdowns.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is an important point when we know that thepandemic of Covid 19<\/strong><\/span><\/a>It is also important to note that, as we move into the winter season, there is still a lot of activity, which is conducive to the exchange of microbes and bacteria of all kinds, such as colds, gastroenteritis and bronchiolitis.hygiene of hands<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026) is becoming a public health issue again, particularly for audiences such as children who have not been immunised against epidemics which were rather rare last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This study focused on the respect of barrier gestures in Europe and in particular in five countries: France, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy.<\/p>\n

As regards hand hygiene<\/b><\/h2>\n

The pandemic will have at least had the beneficial effect of pushing every European country to wash their hands more, especially after going to the toilet. 84% for France, which is at the bottom of the ranking with Germany leading with 89%. France is last but it has still improved by 22% compared to 2014! A good point when we know that hand washing in Europe has lost its popularity since March 2020 when it comes to getting to the table (from 81% to 58%) or after public transport (from 70% to 65%). In these areas, Italy remains the best, and France is falling behind. It is also worth noting that women are better students than men when it comes to hygiene.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The one-piece handkerchief, is it a trend?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Italy is also the most compliant when it comes to washing hands after getting wet with 42% compared to 27% in France, which is at the bottom of the ranking.\u00a0 <\/span>However, good practice in Europe in general has improved on this point (+19 points compared to 2014), but it is mainly based on a catch-up of Latin countries Spain (+24 points, 85%), Italy (+29 points, 85%), France (+22 points, 84%) the more northern countries such as the United Kingdom (+11 points, 86%) or Germany (+11 points, 89%).<\/p>\n

It should also be noted that 61% of Europeans cover their mouths and noses when they cough (53% in France) and 32% wash their hands regularly after coughing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What about the kiss or the handshake?<\/b><\/h2>\n

A symbolic gesture by the Latin countries and which has suffered a major decline in practice during the last decade.COVID 19 and the<\/strong><\/span><\/a>But it remains popular in the family (51% in Europe, 59% in France). The handshake also returns with an average of 22% in Europe, including 16% for France, still shy. If we are far from the numbers before confinement, we are slowly but surely returning to these friendly practices. It will also be interesting to note that it is easier to kiss for a first romantic date. The desire for contact after confinement probably \u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
