During this period of Lent and Ramadan, it is time to address a subject related to both religions: virgins. With a touch of humor, as usual, you know me.<\/p>\n

This weekend, a miracle was reported\u2026 in a supermarket parking lot. In Ch\u00e2teauroux, in Indre, a statue of Bernadette Soubirous \u2013 the young peasant girl to whom the Virgin is said to have appeared in Lourdes in 1858 \u2013 mysteriously appeared during the night. A statue of about one meter, strongly resembling the famous Bernadette in ecstasy, installed near the Lourdes cave. Nobody knows where it comes from. The police are investigating.<\/p>\n
In short: mystical apparition in a large parking lot. And there, inevitably, a question arises.<\/p>\n
In popular tradition, when someone says You saw the virgin, it means that they saw something extraordinary\u2026 or that they are a little hallucinated. But behind this expression lies another phenomenon, much older and much less mystical: the male fantasy of the virgin. A fantasy that crosses religions, mythologies, cultures\u2026 and which has never really disappeared.<\/p>\n

The oldest fantasy in male history<\/b><\/h2>\n
The myth of the virgin woman is not new. To understand why some men still fantasize about female virginity today, we have to go back to Antiquity.<\/p>\n
In ancient patriarchal societies, virginity was not just a moral issue. It had a very concrete function: guaranteeing the paternity of children. Among the Greeks, doctors were already talking about the hymen, this membrane supposed to symbolize the purity of the young wife. During marriage, the rupture of this hymen symbolically represented the transition from young girl to woman. In biblical tradition, the young woman is even compared to a locked garden.<\/p>\n
The message is simple: a closed territory\u2026 that only the husband is authorized to open. In other words: the man wants to be certain that the child who will be born is indeed his. Virginity therefore becomes a system of social control. But thats only half the story.<\/p>\n

An asymmetry that feeds a certain masculine imagination. They refuse men, reject advances, punish voyeurs. And yet, they trigger an immense desire. Like a unique bottle of wine.<\/p>\n Virginity becomes a sort of premium product, an experience that no one else has had before. In this logic, its not really the relationship that matters.
