Prostate massage: how it works and what it feels like

More and more men are embracing a new kind of orgasm with prostate massage. Is it for you?

In a game of word association, we’d wager that most people would say “cancer” if the word “prostate” was uttered. This is understandable given that, after skin cancer, the prostate is the most common cancer in men: one in seven men will be diagnosed withprostate cancer in his lifetime.

One imagines that a smaller fraction of people would respond with an “examination” and an even smaller number would utter the word “massage”. But the fact remains that, if done right, a prostate massage can open up a new level of sexual pleasure for many men. This is evidenced by increased enthusiasm and the rising sales and use of prostate massagers.

If you’re a man or have one in your life, take a moment to put your finger on what the prostate is, how prostate massage is done, how it feels and why you shouldn’t be afraid to try it.

By the way, what is the prostate?

This gland is about the size of a walnut to that of a plum. It secretes a slimy, slightly alkaline substance that accounts for about a third of a man’s semen. The rest is mainly sperm fluid and seminal vesicle, and these ingredients mix together during orgasm. That spasm you feel when you ejaculate? That’s the prostate working hard. It’s located under the bladder and is sometimes referred to as the “male G-spot”.

You’ve heard of the G-spot, right? It’s the name often given to the spongy area on the inside wall of a woman’s vagina that is said to produce powerful orgasms. For men, the prostate is an extremely sensitive erogenous zone capable of delivering similarly intense orgasms. And like the female G-spot, massage of the prostate – literally rubbing it – is known to induce a more prolific projection of ejaculation.

Sexuality has nothing to do with it.

You think stimulating your prostate by yourself or by a partner will make you gay? It won’t. It may, however, take your sexual pleasure up a notch or three. You see, the prostate plays a decisive role in all male orgasms, whatever their orientation. Fortunately, heterosexual men have everything to gain from understanding how to get the most pleasure from their. This can also be practiced as a couple and goes with the 5 secrets of sexually mature couples.

Talk poo.

Maybe it’s the primary function of the anus that makes you think twice about going behind your back. It’s totally understandable. It’s worth remembering, however, that the only time you’ll encounter significant amounts of fecal matter within a few centimeters of the anal cavity is if you’re about to poop or don’t have a full bowel movement. So we’re going to limit this. First, increase the amount of fiber in your diet for a few days and drink plenty of water to make sure the area is free of debris. You may even want to try a Squatty pot to get a parachute. The Potty Squatty is a small step you step on while pooping. According to its makers, the device minimizes the effects of the colon for better enjoyment.

Next, when you’re in the shower. Insert a soapy, manicured finger several times until you feel perfectly clean. This doubles the opportunity to get used to the sensation of having something in your buttocks. At first, you’ll probably feel like you’re going to the bathroom. But if you make it part of your shower regime, you can create a pleasant new association.

Contrary to popular belief, no penetration is required to stimulate the gland. So germophobes can still massage the prostate and have their prostate massaged. The perineum – or, roughly speaking, the sulcus – is the skin between your testicles and your anus, located directly outside your prostate. Although the sensation is said to be natural, it can still be stimulated during intercourse for a more intense orgasm.

How it’s done.

Even if there are no visual, tactile or olfactory signs of poo there, bacteria, some nasty, will linger. That’s why it’s a good idea to use a well-lubricated, one-finger prostate massage approach. But you can also use specially dedicated toys. If you use this manual approach, be aware that it’s generally easier for another person to massage the gland completely. Because they don’t need to touch the body to insert a finger.

If you want to try it, your partner (or you, if you’re flexible) will find the gland an inch or two inside your buttocks. And press on the inside wall. Apply pressure to the gland and massage gently towards the navel. For beginners, it’s best to start slowly. Take time to get used to the sensation. And figure out what works and what doesn’t for you. Note that prostate massage can be administered in conjunction with or separately from penile stimulation.

What it looks like.

The truth is, some men will really dig prostate massage the first time around. Some will be ambivalent or even dislike it intensely. Still others will react the way most people do when they try something new…. They will learn to like it over time.

Most men who stay with the patient long enough to make it work agree that the orgasm they get is more intense (and distinctly different) than what they could get from penis stimulation alone. Some say it’s more localized, others compare it to waves running through the body. It all depends on the pressure, the instrument used and, of course, the person. A simple massage of the prostate for a few seconds may not provoke an orgasm. And people, especially beginners, may not orgasm every time. But that comes with practice.

It won’t help with prostate cancer. But it won’t hurt, either.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in seven men will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime. The average age of diagnosis is 66, and 6 out of 10 cases are diagnosed in men aged 65 and over. Despite its high frequency in men, the 15-year survival rate for men diagnosed with prostate cancer is 96%. Studies have shown, however, that men who ejaculate more have a lower risk of prostate cancer. The study does not mention whether ejaculation through prostate massage is an important factor in cancer research. But there’s no point in giving it a try, is there?
