Who is Salma Hayek?

Born in Mexico in 1966, Salma Hayek left school to become an actress. Her Hollywood breakthrough came with a role in Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado. But her Oscar-nominated role in Frida remains her greatest success. Salma Hayek has also worked in television, notably as executive producer of the hit series Ugly Betty.

Youth and career

Salma Hayek Jiménez was born on September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, the daughter of a Spanish mother and Lebanese father. Raised in a well-to-do Catholic family, the bomba latina attended a religious school in Louisiana at the age of 12 and lived with her aunt in Houston, Texas, during her teenage years. After a brief stint at a university in Mexico City, she dropped out to pursue a career in theater and became a telenovela star in her native Mexico. Good for her.

In 1991, ambitious milf Salma Hayek moved to Los Angeles, California. She was determined to improve her English and become a Hollywood actress. After a series of small gigs, she landed a role opposite Antonio Banderas in Desperado in 1995. The film’s success led to work in mainstream films, including the teen thriller The Faculty (1998), Wild Wild West (1999) and Fools Rush In (1997). Hayek then moved into smaller independent productions, setting up his own production company, Ventanarosa.

frida’ and continued success

The brunette beauty’s increasingly intellectual and passionate approach to filmmaking culminated in her dream role in Frida in 2002, which she both produced and starred in (with Frida Kahlo). The film was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Actress for the actress. This made her the first Latin actress to be nominated in this category.

Large-scale projects followed Frida‘s success, including directing 2002’s The Maldonado Miracle; starring in the final installment of the Desperado trilogy, Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003); and appearing in the thriller Heist After the Sunset (2004) with Pierce Brosnan.

Salma Hayek’s other projects

La Bomba Latina won an Emmy Award and was nominated for an Oscar. Salma Hayek then went on to executive produce the hit TV series Ugly Betty. Based on the Colombian telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea, the series ran from 2006 to 2010 on ABC and won a Golden Globe (best comedy) in 2007. Also in 2007, the show’s star, America Ferrera, won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Hayek made a series of appearances on the popular sitcom 30 Rock in 2009. She plays a nurse who becomes romantically involved with a TV network executive. The latter is played by Alec Baldwin. She returned to the show twice in 2013. The actress then appeared alongside Adam Sandler in the 2010 comedy Grown Ups.

Private life

In December 2017, after dozens of other women came forward to accuse mega-producer Harvey Weinstein of rape, harassment and other troubling behavior, Hayek wrote an op-ed for the New York Times entitled“Harvey Weinstein is my monster too.” ”

The actress described numerous attempts to counter his advances over the years: “Not to take a shower with him. Not to let him watch me shower. As well as to let him give me a massage. Not to let one of his naked friends give me a massage. Also to let him give me oral sex. Not to be naked with another woman. Moreover, in a fit of rage, Weinstein allegedly threatened to kill her.

A committed woman

The pioneering Mexican actress was keen to discuss the improved status of Latin women in Hollywood, even if the situation is far from ideal. “I came to the United States at a time when women were not considered women but stereotypes,” she recalls. “I was looked down upon, but I wasn’t sad. I was just surprised by the level of ignorance.”

Our sexy milf began dating French entrepreneur François-Henri Pinault in 2006, and the couple became engaged the following year. She gave birth to daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault on September 21, 2007 in Los Angeles, California. The couple married on Valentine’s Day 2009 in Paris, France.
